SS/SCS/HCS/HB 1026 - This act makes it unlawful for any person to engage in protest activities in front of or about any location at which a funeral is held, within one hour prior to the commencement of any funeral, and until one hour following the cessation of any funeral. First violations are punishable as a Class B misdemeanor and subsequent violations are punishable as a Class A misdemeanor. This act shall be known as "Spc. Edward Lee Myers' Law". This provision of the act has an emergency clause.
The act also provides that if any of the aforementioned provisions are declared unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, then it shall be unlawful for any person to engage in protest activities within three hundred feet of or about any location at which a funeral is held, within one hour prior to the commencement of any funeral, and until one hour following the cessation of any funeral. First violations are punishable as a Class B misdemeanor and subsequent violations are punishable as a Class A misdemeanor. This act shall be known as "Spc. Edward Lee Myers' Law".
This provision of the act has a contingent effective date.
This act is similar to SCS/SB 578 (2006).
