SB 497 – Current law provides that school districts that do not maintain an accredited school must pay tuition and provide transportation for resident students to attend an accredited school in another district. This act provides that if the sending district is delinquent in tuition payments, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education may, upon request of the receiving district, withhold an amount equal to the delinquent tuition from the sending district's state aid. This act is substantially similar to HB 1875 (2008).
