SB 157 – Under current law, a person who inflicts cruel and inhuman punishment on a child commits the crime of child abuse. This act removes "inhuman" from the current language and adds the word "excessive" in its place. A person also commits the crime of child abuse when a person knowingly causes physical injury to a child by any means, including torturing, shaking, slamming, kicking, or neglecting the child.
