HCS/HB 209 - This act modifies provisions relating to the Crime Victims' Compensation Fund.

FUNERAL HOME CLAIMANTS - 595.010 & 595.015

This act allows the family or next of kin of a deceased crime victim to sign a notarized statement designating a funeral home as a claimant eligible for compensation from the Crime Victims' Compensation Fund.

The definition of claimant for purposes of the statutes related to the fund is modified under this act to include a funeral home designated to receive compensation.

This provision is identical to SB 333 (2015) and HB 390 (2015).

COMPENSATION TO MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS - 595.030

Under current law, compensation paid for mental health services may only be paid if the service provider is a certain licensed professional. This act adds board-certified psychiatric-mental health clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners to the list.

This provision is identical to HB 49 (2015).

PAYMENT LIMITATIONS - 590.030

Under current law, the Crime Victims' Compensation fund can pay eligible victims up to $200 per week for the loss of employment and for injury or death.

This act raises that amount to $400 per week.

This provision is identical to a provision of the truly agreed to and finally passed SB 141 (2015) and SB 792 (2014).
