SS/SB 27 - All health insurers and health maintenance organizations shall offer coverage for the treatment of breast cancer by dose-intensive chemotherapy/autologous bone marrow transplants or stem cell transplants when performed according to nationally accepted protocols. Deductibles and copayments shall be the same as for other types of coverage in the policy.

The policy may contain a provision imposing a lifetime benefit maximum of not less than $100,000. Exceptions are made for certain policies.

The provisions relating to dose-intensive chemotherapy/autologous bone marrow transplants or stem cell transplants applies only to policies issued or renewed after January 1, 1996.

The act also requires that all health insurers and health maintenance organizations shall offer coverage for a mammogram for any woman, upon the recommendation of a physician, where such woman, her mother or sister has had a prior history of breast cancer.
