SB 261 - This act repeals the contribution limits of Proposition A. Those limits were $300 per term of office for statewide elected officials, $200 per term of office for candidates in districts with a population of 100,000 or more and $100 per term of office for candidates in smaller jurisdictions. The repeal would leave intact the limits enacted in SB 650: $1,000, $500, and $250, respectively.
The U.S. 8th District Court of Appeals ruled in September
1994, that Minnesota's limits, identical to those contained in
Proposition A, were unconstitutional. The Proposition A limits
are currently under challenge in the 8th District Court (Carver
V. Nixon).
