SB 356 - This act makes attacks on police animals separate crimes. A person is guilty of killing a police animal (a dog or horse) if he purposely causes the death of the animal while that animal is involved in an investigation or in apprehending a criminal. Killing a police animal is a Class D felony.
A person is guilty of assault on a police animal if he purposely
attempts to kill or cause serious injury to that animal. Assault
on a police animal is a Class A misdemeanor.
