JEFFERSON CITY — Today (Wednesday,
Jan. 9), Sen. Mike Cunningham, R-Rogersville, was officially
sworn in to represent the 33rd Senatorial District in the Missouri
Senate. This district includes Texas, Wright, Webster, Douglas,
Ozark Howell, Oregon, and Ripley counties.
“This morning, I was humbled by the presence
of my loved ones and colleagues as I was sworn in as state senator
for the 33rd District and made an oath to represent my constituents
to the best of my ability,” Sen. Cunningham said. “I look forward
to making a difference in our great state and supporting the
values of a small government in Missouri.”
A 1965 graduate of
Macon High School, Sen. Cunningham attended Jacksonville University
in Jacksonville, Fla., and received a Bachelor of Science
degree in business administration with a minor in economics
from Truman State University in 1972.
Before beginning his
journey in the Missouri Legislature as a state representative
(elected in 2002), Sen. Cunningham owned and managed Cunningham’s
Fresh Foods, a supermarket in Marshfield, Mo.; he retired in
2001. Senator Cunningham also served as city administrator for
Marshfield from 1974 to 1979 and worked for Coca-Cola USA in
Atlanta, Ga. In addition, he received an honorable discharge
from the U.S. Army, serving from 1967 to 1969, attaining the
rank of sergeant E-5 in the military police. In addition to
his legislative duties, Sen. Cunningham is a livestock farmer.
He lives in Rogersville, Mo., and has
three children: Zack, Seth, and Leah.
