Sen. Keaveny to Attend Legislative Town
Hall on Saturday

JEFFERSON CITY — Sen. Joseph Keaveny, D-St. Louis, will join Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, Rep. Michael Butler, D-St. Louis, and Rep. Joshua Peters, D-St. Louis, and others at the Henry Givens Auditorium on the Harris-Stowe State University campus starting at 10 a.m. on Nov. 2 for an Emergency Legislative Town Hall Meeting and Advocacy Training. The event will feature four, 15-minute presentations and then a dialogue with the legislators, including Sen. Keaveny.

“This event is a great place for young professionals and college students to increase their civic engagement and advocacy efforts,” Sen. Keaveny said. “They can do this while learning how to reach out and help with legislation that will affect the St. Louis area and address needs in their communities.”

Presentations will cover topics like the impact of photo ID laws, school transfer issues, the recent Maryland Supreme Court decision regarding funding for historically black colleges and universities and its implications for Missouri, and the impact of the recent government shutdown on vital programs such as WIC and SNAP.

The event is sponsored by the Urban League Young Professionals of Metropolitan St. Louis (ULYP-STL), in partnership with other nonprofit organizations.

After the town hall meeting, there will be advocacy training from noon-2 p.m.
