Sen. Paul LeVota Announces Tourism Funds
Awarded to 11th District

JEFFERSON CITY— Senator Paul LeVota, D-Independence, announced today the Missouri Division of Tourism has awarded $97,743 to the City of Independence Department of Tourism for tourism efforts within the 11th District.  The funds will assist in marketing efforts for amateur sports, research, convention marketing and marketing leisure tourism in Independence.

Each dollar in state funding is matched by a dollar of local funds.

“Tourism continues to rank as one of the most important revenue and job-producing industries in Missouri, creating more than 281,000 jobs,” said Sen. LeVota. “Missouri’s 6 million residents welcome more than 36 million visitors annually.”

“Our area in particular is benefited by increased tourism efforts,” Sen. LeVota continued. “From the Fort Osage to the Truman Library, and from the Truman Sports Complex to the Three Trails attractions, our area has much to offer tourists.  This effort is a good investment because the money visitors spend while here support local businesses and help create jobs.”

“The partnership between the city tourism department and the state has benefited our efforts to grow business in Independence,” said Independence City Councilman Chris Whiting.

“We appreciate the commitment to our progress as displayed by these funds.”
These cooperating marketing funds may be used for media advertising, as well as a variety of other approved tourism marketing and promotional activities designed to attract additional visitors and boost visitor spending in Missouri.
