College Student from 25th District Shares University Research Experience with State Sen. Doug Libla

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Doug Libla, R-Poplar Bluff, recently had the opportunity to sit down with 25th District citizen Nathan Moore of Birch Tree to discuss unique opportunities undergraduate students, such as Moore, have regarding their interaction with faculty in the area of research at the University of Missouri.  Moore, along with many other students from all four campuses of the University of Missouri system, made their way to the State Capitol on March 7, 2013, for Undergraduate Research Day.  He’s a senior at University of Missouri-Columbia and is majoring in architectural studies.

“It was a great honor to get to sit down with Nathan, who is a shining light and a wonderful example of a student who is working hard to lay down the right stepping stones that will guide him to a successful and bright future,” said Sen. Libla.  “I always enjoy meeting with students in my legislative district, learning what they are studying and what they want to be when they ‘grown up.’  During these visits, I often get valuable insight on what we as lawmakers in Jefferson City can do in order to promote higher education and get these students into the jobs of which they’ve always dreamed.”

Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol allows students from across the state to underscore higher education’s role in developing educated citizens and preparing a workforce with the necessary skills to further the economic growth of the Show-Me State.  Students selected to participate in Research Day spent months preparing for the event, attending workshops on presentation skills, how the Legislature operates, and proper etiquette on meeting and greeting lawmakers.

Sen. Libla urges individuals to call his Capitol office and set up a time to visit with him, as well as see the sights of the Missouri State Capitol and surrounding landmarks.
