State Senator Doug Libla Shares
Outdoor Community Events at
Twin Pines Conservation Education Center

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Doug Libla, R-Poplar Bluff, would like to share information regarding Missouri’s forest, fish and wildlife resources with constituents of the 25th District.  Additional outdoor community events are scheduled at the Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Shannon County for citizens who are interested in longbows, nature hikes, and the world of butterflies. 

Longbow Workshop
Aug. 22, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Aug. 23, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Aug. 24, 8:00 a.m. - noon
This three-day workshop allows participants to build a longbow from wood stave to finished product, complete with handmade string.  Lessons include the history and making of a longbow (Aug. 22), construction of a bow (Aug. 23), and completing your bow (Aug. 24).  Some woodworking skill is helpful for this event and attendance at all sessions is required.  Ages 18 and up; limit 13.  Tools and materials will be provided to all participants.  Preregistration is required; please reserve by Aug. 17.

Discover Nature: Nature Nuts
Aug. 17, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
This event allows individuals to get outdoors, enjoy nature and see what it has to offer.  The program is designed for children ages 8-12 and reservations are required for this naturalist hike. 

Discover Nature: Outdoor Adventure Club
Aug. 24, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
This club outing includes a butterfly hunt, catapult game and butterfly craft.  The program is for children ages 10 and under and reservations are required.

Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona is changing its hours of operation.  Starting Aug. 1, new hours are Tuesday thru Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  This change means additional programming opportunities on Saturdays, such as open archery, guided hikes, and family Discover Nature Programs.  Demonstrations are now available each week, including soap making, turkey-call making, longbow making, learning how to use a shaving horse, and much more.
