Senate Leader Creates Interim Committee on
Capital Improvement Assessment and Planning

JEFFERSON CITY—Senate Leader Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, announced today the creation of the Senate Interim Committee on Capital Improvement Assessment and Planning. Dempsey said the committee may hold public hearings to gather input on State Capital improvement needs.

“We want to study the needs across the state including parks, mental health facilities, state buildings and higher education facilities,” said Dempsey. “The interim committee will be able to do a cost benefit analysis of the proposed projects to help us prioritize those needs and leverage private support.”

Dempsey named Sen. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, as chairman of the interim committee.  Pearce said the interim will give the committee time to visit the priority projects and study the needs.

“It is important to look at the long-range needs of Missourians,” said Pearce. “Being stewards of Missouri taxpayers, it is imperative we focus our energies on providing resources that will serve Missourians for generations to come.”

The Senate Interim Committee on Capital Improvement Assessment and Planning will consist of seven senators: five representing the majority party and two representing the minority party. The committee report is due by Dec. 1, 2013.
