Sen. Romine Files Legislation to Streamline
State Job Training Programs

JEFFERSON CITY— State Sen. Gary Romine, R-Farmington, filed legislation this week to provide more job training opportunities to Missouri citizens. The bill streamlines a number of Missouri’s training programs and expands which organizations will qualify for the assistance.

Senate Bill 339 establishes the Missouri Works job Training Program, which combines several existing programs to better provide assistance for job training to qualified companies.

“Our economy is rapidly changing, with an ever increasing focus on innovative and high-tech industries. It’s critical that we help Missourians secure these lucrative jobs, and training is an important part of that,” said Sen. Romine. “Job creation is one of our highest priorities, but it can’t be the only one. We also have to make sure Missourians have the skills they need to seize those opportunities. Education and job training are key in reaching that goal.”

Among other provisions, the legislation also modifies which organizations qualify for the program. Under the bill, qualified companies, along with technology centers created by community colleges and state-owned postsecondary technical colleges, would receive funds to provide training services to employees in growth industries.
