Sen. Schmitt to Continue Serving as Chairman of
Senate Jobs and Economic Development Committee

JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Eric Schmitt, R-Glendale, will continue to serve as chairman of the Senate Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government, announced Missouri Senate President Tom Dempsey, R-St Charles, yesterday. Senator Schmitt has chaired the committee for the last two years and has focused much of his work in the upper chamber on promoting business and economic development in the state.

“I thank Senate Leader Dempsey for his confidence in me, and I look forward to working with my fellow members on the committee,” said Sen. Schmitt. “Things are looking up for our state. Unemployment has fallen below 7 percent, and revenue collections through the first half of the budget year are up. We’ve made progress, and I look forward to continuing the momentum.”

“But, we’ve still got a ways to go,” Sen. Schmitt continued. “We have to approach economic development in such a way that we create opportunities for all Missouri families and businesses, both large and small. We also have to find ways to bring new economic activity to our state. The committee will continue to focus on creating a business environment conducive to job creation and economic development that will put Missouri on a path of prosperity.”

The Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government considers legislation relating to the promotion of economic development, the creation and retention of jobs, and the promotion of tourism as a state industry.  The committee also works on legislation regarding community and business development, county government, township organizations and political subdivisions. 

Senator Schmitt was also newly appointed to the Senate Veterans’ Affairs and Health Committee and the Ways and Means Committee. He will continue to serve on the Gubernatorial Appointments Committee and the Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.
