JEFFERSON CITY —State Senator Jay Wasson, R-Nixa, sponsored the appointment of Chuck Wooten to the Missouri Veterans Commission during the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
The Missouri Veterans Commission aids all veterans and their families by providing information regarding the rights of veterans and assists them in accessing all the available benefits through state and federal government. The commission also ensures all Missouri’s veterans homes and agencies provide quality service and care for veterans, their families and their dependents.
“As a veteran, Chuck understands the needs of our state’s heroes. I know he will work diligently to ensure every one of Missouri’s veterans receive the care they deserve,” said Sen. Wasson. “He will be a valuable addition to the Veterans Commission. I’m honored to sponsor his appointment.”
Following his graduation from Springfield Missouri Central High School, Wooten served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After leaving the military, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years. In 1988, Wooten was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives for District 137. During his time in the Capitol, he served on the Appropriations Committee, two retirement committees and the Budget Committee. He has worked as a consultant for the Veterans Commission since 1999. Additionally, Wooten hosts a weekly radio talk show on KWTO out of Springfield.
The members of many state commissions and boards are appointed by the governor. Gubernatorial appointees then work with their state senator, who serves as a sponsor of the nominee in the confirmation process, which begins before the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee and concludes with a consenting vote by the full Senate.
