New Parking Regulations Could Affect You
|
Newly updated parking regulations are now in effect in our city and increased enforcement could affect those who park their vehicles downtown. This recent round of changes made by members of the City Council is in response to increased activity, residents and construction in the downtown area.
The new regulations limit the time drivers can park in passenger and property loading zones, and require emergency flashers to be used the entire time drivers are loading and unloading.
In addition, motorists are now prohibited from parking within eight feet of a streetcar track or any public transit station, including bus stops and streetcar stations. Fines for these violations could be as much as $500.
These new regulations are already set into place, and officers are cracking down on vehicles illegally parked in no-parking zones or blocking lanes of traffic.
In order to help motorist navigate the new parking regulations, the city has created Parkmobile, a mobile app that allows drivers to pay for any of the city's 1,500 metered parking spots with their smartphones and receive alerts and reminders 15 minutes prior their parking session expiring. To learn more about this app, visit www.parkmobile.com.
Citizens may also choose to park in one of the many downtown parking garages: http://www.downtownkc.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/DowntownKC_ParkingMap-Web_June2012.pdf. |
