Transportation Projects Could Benefit Kansas City Area
On Aug. 5, Missouri voters will have the opportunity to decide if our state's sales taxes should be increased by three-quarters of one percent through Constitutional Amendment 7 to improve various transportation projects throughout our state.
Of the more than 800 items on the proposed projects list created by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), 39 projects are found within the Kansas City region and would cost approximately $897 million. Many of those projects within Jackson County include:
- Improvements to reconfigure the I-70/I-435 interchange;
- Adding lanes to I-70 from Blue Ridge Cut Off to I-470 in Kansas City;
- Improving the I-470/Route 50 interchange in Lee's Summit;
- Improving the I-70/I-35 and Route 169 interchange to connect to a new Broadway Bridge; and
- Improving railroad crossings at 12th, 15th, 17th, 37th and 39th streets near Manchester Trafficway.
Other projects include widening I-70 to three lanes between suburban Kansas City and St. Louis, adding lanes and improving bridges in Jackson County from the Kansas border to I-49, replacing the Route 169 Broadway Bridge over the Missouri River in Kansas City, improving the Lee's Summit Airport, and working on the rail connections at the Kansas City, SEMO and New Bourbon ports.
MoDOT is holding public information meetings for those who are interested in speaking to regional planning partners and MoDOT representatives.
