EPA Accepting Environmental Justice Small Grant Requests for Applications
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced this week that it is now accepting requests for applications for its Environmental Justice Small Grants (EJSG) Program, which provides funding for projects that address local environmental or public health issues within a community. The program was designed to assist non-profit organizations in understanding and addressing exposure to environmental risks at the local level.
The EPA has been at the forefront of efforts to lessen or delay the risks and impacts of climate change. As a result, this year’s EJSG program is focusing on proposals that support community-based preparedness and resiliency to climate change.
The agency is also making a concerted effort to reach new areas by prioritizing funding to organizations that have not recently received an award under the EJSG program. The total estimated amount of funding available for awards for Fiscal Year 2015 is approximately $1.2 million, with the EPA anticipating awarding up to four grants per EPA region in amounts up to $30,000 per award for a two-year project period.
