Women's Vehicle Awareness and Self-Protection Class

The East Patrol Division and the Kansas City Police Department have partnered with the Downtown Church of the Resurrection and Auto Zone to provide a women’s self-protection training class for strained motorists, who are at risk from not only other traffic, but also those who might stop to “help” them. This training course will educate women on routine vehicle maintenance to prevent breakdowns. Tips will also be offered on how to protect yourself if necessary.

Auto Zone will provide gift bags to the first 100 participants, and will have onsite technicians to answer any questions and assist participants in applying the lessons they’ve learned through the course.
The training class will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon, at 1522 McGee St. in Kansas City. The class is free and offers a number of valuable lessons, including techniques on general car safety, how to winterize your vehicle, and individual inspections by auto-technicians. Light breakfast items and refreshments will be provided by the church.

I urge women in our area to attend this event. We unfortunately live in a world where you can’t trust that the person who pulls over to help is actually there to assist you. This class will teach you how to avoid that situation if possible, and what to do if worse comes to worst.
