JEFFERSON CITY — Due to weather conditions that played out last week, the 8th Annual Public Health & Safety Fair, hosted by Sen. Shalonn “Kiki” Curls, D-Kansas City, has been rescheduled for this Saturday, June 14, 2014. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, located at 825 Euclid Ave. in Kansas City, and will provide citizens the tools they need to help fight and prevent chronic disease while supporting a healthy lifestyle.
Services and events scheduled for this year’s Public Health & Safety Fair include health screenings, car and booster seats for those who meet federal poverty income level requirements, bicycle helmets and bicycle giveaways, a mini-football camp and much more.
“While we hit a road bump last weekend with the weather, I’m excited for this upcoming event, in which we’ve had tremendous success in the past in our community,” said Sen. Curls. “These Public Health & Safety Fairs help build community partnerships and provide our citizens with access to beneficial screenings, such as eye exams and blood pressure, dental, diabetes, mammograms and body mass index (BMI) screenings. Numerous organizations and businesses have teamed up with officials to support this year’s Public Health & Safety Fair. It’s through these collaborative efforts and events that we can make a difference in disparities found throughout our communities.”
Senator Curls continued, “I hope we can make this another successful year, and I am excited to see all the hard work and effort come together on behalf of the citizens in our communities. There is NO COST to participate in the 2014 Public Health & Safety Fair, so I urge citizens to attend this extremely important event.”
