Senator Keaveny to Attend Signing of Breast-feeding Legislation

JEFFERSON CITY — Today (4-3), Sen. Joseph Keaveny, D-St. Louis, and others, will be on hand when the governor signs House Bill 1320. A measure sponsored by Rep. Rory Ellinger, D-University City. Among other provisions this legislation allows breast-feeding mothers to be excused from jury duty, if they so request.

“I am glad to see this measure move so quickly and receive no opposition in both the House and Senate,” Sen. Keaveny said. “This is an important piece of legislation for our state regarding mothers who choose to breast-feed their children. It reinforces the significant benefits of breast-feeding and stands behind the decisions mothers make for their children.”

The bill also exempts mothers who are breastfeeding from being penalized for breast-feeding in public. Sen. Keaveny, along with bill sponsor, Rep. Ellinger, and the governor will be at City Hall in University City (6820 Delmar Blvd.) at 2:30 p.m., today.
