Sen. Keaveny Named New
Minority Party Leader |
JEFFERSON CITY — Today (Nov. 6), Sen. Joseph Keaveny, D-St. Louis, was elected as the Minority Floor Leader for the 98th General Assembly. The unanimous vote was taken by fellow minority party members and was announced today.
“I am pleased to have been elected Minority Floor Leader by legislators who share many of my beliefs and concerns for all Missourians,” Sen. Keaveny said. “I hope to lead the caucus and the state in addressing healthcare and the economy in the upcoming 2015-2016 legislative session.”
Senator Keaveny was first elected to serve the citizens of the 4th Senate District during a special election in 2009 to fill an unexpired term. He was recently re-elected for a second four-year term. He previously held the minority caucus chairman position.
Sen. Keaveny earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and hold a master’s degree in finance, in addition to a law degree, both from St. Louis University.
“I look forward to working across the aisle with the majority caucus to consider priorities both parties and make Missouri a better place for all constituencies,” Sen. Keaveny said.
Other minority leadership roles include Sen. Gina Walsh, D-St. Louis, assistant leader, Sen. Jason Holsman, D-Kansas City, secretary, Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, whip, and Sen. S. Kiki Curls, D-Kansas City, caucus chair.
