Task Force Established by Sen. LeVota's Legislation to Work Toward Bringing Super Bowl to Kansas City

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Department of Economic Development recently announced it will hold its first Super Bowl Task Force meeting on Monday, Aug. 25, at noon at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The group, created through the passage of a resolution sponsored by Sen. Paul LeVota, D-Independence, will focus on ways to bring a Super Bowl to Kansas City.

“I was proud to sponsor this resolution, and grateful to see the Department of Economic Development taking steps to make this goal happen. I can think of no better place to host the Super Bowl than Kansas City, the best football town in America. We’ve got incredible fans and a city more than capable of handling such a huge event,” said Sen. LeVota. “This is about the economic impact of hosting a Super Bowl in our state. Visitors would inject millions of dollars into our local economy, which in turn supports local businesses and boosts revenue for the state.”

Earlier this year, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell indicated the league is open to hosting Super Bowls in cold-weather cities. In response, Sen. LeVota filed Senate Concurrent Resolution 34, which urges the NFL to name Kansas City as host of an upcoming Super Bowl.

The Department of Economic Development is charged with taking the necessary actions to help bring the game to Missouri. The upcoming task force is the first step in that process. Senator LeVota will attend the meeting and work with the group in its efforts.
