JEFFERSON CITY — Tomorrow, Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis; Alderman Freeman Bosley, Sr.; and St. Louis Construction Contracts Assistance Center (MOKAN) will host a town hall meeting to address the issue of minority inclusion on Carter Carburetor and other projects within the City of St. Louis.
Minority inclusion means giving local minorities equal access to job opportunities and participation in contracts and services for businesses. With establishment of the Mayor’s Executive Order #28, minority/women-owned businesses (M/WBEs) are to make up 30 percent of City contracts, with 25 percent being MBE and 5 percent WBE.
“In our communities, neighborhoods, and in our own back yards, minorities must have the opportunities to participate in work taking place in the City of St. Louis, whether public or private. The best way to alleviate crime in a community is to create jobs for the community,” said Sen. Nasheed.
“If we do not address this topic publicly, our small business owners will meet a sad state over and over again. It is important that all businesses thrive, including minority business," stated Alderman Bosley. “Let’s work together to see how we can make this happen.”
