Senator Gary Romine Chosen to Chair the
Joint Committee on Education

JEFFERSON CITY—Senator Gary Romine, R-Farmington, has been chosen to chair the Joint Committee on Education. The committee’s duties include monitoring the progress of Missouri’s public schools, receiving reports regarding public schools and higher education institutions, studying and analyzing the public school system, and recommending legislation to improve education.

“It is an honor to be chosen to chair the Joint Committee on Education by my fellow committee members,” Sen. Romine said. “Our children and grandchildren are the future of this state, and I look forward to leading the committee in a direction that will provide more opportunities for all of Missouri’s children.”

The committee will focus on several key issues in the upcoming year, including the graduation and retention rates of students receiving college scholarships, performance-based education, early childhood education, school standards, and the funding formula.

Senator Romine said the committee will be focusing on ways to improve education.

“The biggest issue we will examine is the retention rates of students receiving scholarships from the state,” Sen. Romine said. “Our goal is to develop policies that will keep these students in Missouri. A better-educated workforce will then help us attract higher-paying jobs to the state.”
