Sen. Eric Schmitt Releases Statement on
Attorney General Koster's Action on Municipal Courts |
JEFFERSON CITY—State Senator Eric Schmitt, R-Glendale, today (12-18) issued the following statement on Attorney General Chris Koster's action against municipalities in violation of Macks Creek Law:
"Municipalities that are operating outside the law with these abusive traffic ticket schemes should be held accountable. While current law should be enforced today, we need to update the law to ensure that local municipalities are only allowed to fund 10 percent of their budgets with revenue generated by traffic tickets.
"My legislation, Senate Bill 5, would help end these abusive traffic ticket schemes that are little more than ATMs for bloated big government budgets that have hit the poor especially hard. It will take the efforts of Republicans and Democrats to help right this wrong and help us move forward."
