MoDOT to Apply New Asphalt Treatment on Kansas City Highways to Reduce Car Crashes
The Missouri Department of Transportation recently announced that it will be applying a new anti-skid treatment in Kansas City, specifically on the ramp from southbound Interstate 29 to southbound Interstate 635 in the northern part of the city.
The asphalt treatment was used in Jefferson City two years ago on U.S. Highway 54 to positive results. A district traffic engineer estimated the treatment can reduce crashes by as much as 90 percent. The department chose I-29 because of the high numbers of drivers who run off the road there.
The project is being funded through a nearly $1 million grant from the federal government. MoDOT plans to apply the new treatment to nine areas in the state, including Kansas City. I’m pleased to see our transportation department embracing innovative new technologies to increase public safety in our area and throughout the state.
