JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Senate stands adjourned this week for its annual mid-session recess. Lawmakers will return to the Capitol next week to begin the second half of the legislative session.
Fifty-seven Senate bills have been passed by the Senate and sent to the House for consideration as of last week’s adjournment—34 are consent bills and 23 are regular bills. Conversely, 40 House bills have been sent to the Senate for approval.
Of the 576 Senate bills introduced this legislative session, 140 have been passed by their respective Senate committees.
One bill thus far has received “truly agreed and finally passed” status, which means it was approved by both chambers in its final form and sent to the governor’s desk for his signature. Senate Bill 313 , sponsored by Sen. Gary Nodler (R-Joplin) and co-sponsored by Sen. Joan Bray (D-St. Louis), will help track the federal economic stimulus funds by placing the money into two accounts within the state treasury that are separate from regular revenue. The measure contains an emergency clause, making it effective immediately upon receiving the governor’s signature.
One House bill, HB 14 , has received a second passing vote from the Senate. House Bill 14 is a supplemental spending bill for fiscal year 2009. It has now returned to the House for final approval.
The Missouri Senate will reconvene at 4 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009. The First Regular Session of the 95th Missouri General Assembly will run through Friday, May 15, 2009.
