Lawrence J. Lee served the people of the 3rd District (part of St. Louis City). Born in St. Louis, he received his education from St. Mathews Elementary School; St. Louis Preparatory Seminary School; St. Louis University High School; St. Louis University School of Commerce and Finance, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954; and St. Louis University School of Law, earning a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1956. An attorney, Senator Lee had a private practice until 1964, when he was appointed prosecuting attorney of St. Louis, serving from 1964-1966. He was elected to the Senate in a special election in 1966, and re-elected in 1968 and 1972. He served as Majority Floor Leader for the 77th and 78th General Assemblies. (Democrat)
