Donald J. Gralike served the people of the 1st District (part of St. Louis County). Born in St. Louis County, he was educated in the St. Louis and St. Louis County public and parochial schools and Washington University. He was an instructor in the O’Fallon Technical High School. From 1952 to 1954, he served in the U.S. Army with the 185th Engineer Combat Battery in the Korean War. He was elected to the House in 1962 and was re-elected in 1964, 1966, 1968 and 1970 before being elected to the Senate in YEARS OF SERVICE: 1972. In 1978, he was appointed to the U.S. Labor 1973-1976 Relations Task Force by President Jimmy Carter. A third-generation electrical worker, Senator Gralike was passionate about labor rights and served as the president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1 from 1972-1995. Senator Gralike served as vice chairman of the Missouri Veterans Commission and retired from that job in 2003. (Democrat)
