John J. Johnson served the people of the 15th District (part of St. Louis County). Born in St. Louis, he attended Roosevelt High School and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Washington University. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946. During his professional career, he worked as an insurance broker, a real estate investor and as a civil worker for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. In 1963, he started South County Bank in St. Louis, which merged with Mark Twain Bank in 1968. Senator Johnson was first elected to the Senate in 1960 and served through 1972. (Democrat)
