SB 589 - This act is identical to SB 108 (1999), and allows
political subdivisions in third classification counties to be
exempt from the state prevailing wage law, if approved by the
voters of that political subdivision. Either approval of the
governing body or a petition signed by 10% of all registered
voters in that political subdivision is required before the
proposal could be submitted to the voters for approval. The
ballot language provides that the prevailing wage law on
construction projects involving federal funds would not be
affected.
