Current Bill Summary

SB 730 - The Department of Corrections may require offenders to work and may also require participation in self-improvement programs. This act requires offenders participating in work programs to wear distinctive colored uniforms, and they may be required to wear shackles and chains. Offenders convicted of first degree murder, first degree assault, forcible rape, or forcible sodomy shall not be placed in work programs. Offenders are not considered state employees, nor is their work considered employment.

This act is similar to SB 54 (1999).
