PERFECTED

HB 1289 -- LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCIDENT REPORTS (Auer)

This bill adds to the definition of the "interested party"
entitled to law enforcement accident or incident reports before
the information is available to the public to include street
departments of the jurisdictions where the accidents or
incidents that are the subjects of the reports take place.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

COMMITTEE

HB 1289 -- LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCIDENT REPORTS

SPONSOR: Auer

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Criminal Law by a vote of 17 to 0.

This bill adds to the definition of the "interested party"
entitled to law enforcement accident or incident reports before
the information is available to the public to include street
departments of the jurisdictions where the accidents or
incidents that are the subjects of the reports take place.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that until recent changes were made
to the law, street departments had immediate access to accident
reports so that any necessary corrective measures could be taken
to prevent further accidents. Under current law, the
departments must wait 60 days for this information. This bill
would eliminate that time delay.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Auer; and City of
St. Louis Street Department.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.

Sarah Madden, Legislative Analyst
