COMMITTEE
HB 1486 -- COMMUNITY COLLEGES
CO-SPONSORS: Abel, Selby, McKenna, Hollingsworth, Ward, Wagner
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Higher Education by a vote of 18 to 0.
Current law requires that community college districts provide
50% of the funding for maintenance and repair of facilities and
grounds and prohibits the use of this share for salaries or
portions of salaries. This bill allows the district's 50% share
of funding to be used for those salaries or portions of salaries
directly related to approved maintenance and repair projects.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that some community colleges have
had difficulty meeting their 50% match requirement, and this
bill helps all community colleges access the state funds
available to them.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Abel; and Jefferson
College.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
