HB 1768 -- COUNTY PROSECUTORS (Ward) This bill makes several changes regarding county prosecutors. The bill: (1) Requires the prosecuting attorney in St. Francois County to be a full-time prosecutor. The prosecutor may not engage in the practice of law outside of the position of prosecutor; (2) Excludes prosecutors in counties of the first classification from receiving additional pay due to having a certain correctional facility within the county; and (3) Increases by $10,000 the annual salary of prosecutors in Nodaway, Christian, and Livingston counties. The bill contains an emergency clause. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

This bill requires the prosecuting attorney in St. Francois County to be a full-time prosecutor. The prosecutor may not engage in the practice of law outside of the position of prosecutor. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this should be a full-time position and will be in about one year. The full-time prosecutor's position should start immediately.
