SB 563 - This act modifies provisions of state employee life insurance and state holidays.
LIFE INSURANCE - This provision has a delayed effective date of January 1, 2002. Basic life insurance benefits are modified from the current $15,000 to a minimum of $15,000 or the employee's salary (whichever is higher). Life insurance benefits include all Chapter 104 employees (in anticipation of retirement legislation), judges and administrative law judges. There is a triple indemnity for a duty-related death.
HOLIDAYS - This provision has an effective date of January 1, 2001. State offices are open year round, Monday through Friday, except on designated dates:

Holidays falling on weekends are taken either the Friday before (if on Saturday) or the Monday after (if on Sunday). Employees hired prior to January 1, 2001, shall receive the same leave time based on vacation and holiday time, combined, as they had before the proposed changes. There are exceptions for persons required to work twenty-four hour shifts or offices which must remain open seven days per week. An employee who requests and is approved for leave time and whose leave time is later withdrawn shall be paid the normal hourly rate for such amount of leave time.
