Current Bill Summary

SB 470 - This act would create the Second State Capitol Commission which would consist of eleven members including: Two senators, two representatives, the Commissioner of the Office of Administration, and six members appointed by the Governor. The Lt. Governor is an ex officio member of the Commission. The purpose of the Commission is to assure the future preservation and integrity of the Capitol, and to preserve its historical significance. The Commission will cooperate with the Office of Administration, the Archives Division of the Secretary of State, the Historic Preservation Program in the Department of Natural Resources, the Division of Tourism, and the Historical Society of Missouri.

The Commission will provide a report to the Governor and General Assembly annually and will provide recommendations for budget allocations for improvements or restoration of the capitol premises. The Commission is empowered to conduct studies and hold hearings related to improvement and restoration of the capitol. The Second Capitol Commission Fund is created and is authorized to receive gifts, donations, bequests, and apply for grants. The Commission is authorized to cooperate or collaborate with other state agencies and not-for profit organizations to publish books and manuals concerning the history of the capitol, its improvement or restoration.
