SB 532 - This act would create the Large Animal Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program.

The Missouri Veterinary Medical Board would designate areas of defined need. Up to five veterinary students, in their final year of education, would be eligible to enter a contract with the Board. The veterinarians would agree to practice as a large animal veterinarian in an area of defined need for at least five years in exchange for the repayment student loans. For each year of obligated services the Board may pay up to $10,000 on behalf of he individual. Individuals who enter a contract with the Board who either fail to maintain their academic standing, fail to become licensed within 1 year after graduation, or fail to complete the service will be liable for repayment of the amounts paid, including interest and may be liable to pay an unserved obligation penalty. Funds for the program are subject to appropriation.

These provisions are also contained in TAT CCS/HCS/SB 462 (2001).
