Current Bill Summary

SB 569 - This act revises licensure procedures for physical therapists (PT) and physical therapist assistants (PTA). The act revises Sections 334.530 -334.560, RSMo, for PTs and Sections 334.655 - 334.670, RSMo, for PTAs and contains identical revisions for both practices.

The Board of Registration for the Healing Arts is authorized to renew the temporary license of an applicant who fails the required examination. Direct, on-site supervision will, however, be required along with the temporary license. The examination results will be provided to the applicant and the supervising PT, specifying the areas of weakness.

If the applicant fails the examination a second time, he or she is required to provide the Board with documentation of a completed program of remediation before the applicant may sit for the exam a third time. If the applicant fails the examination a third time, he or she is required to pass the exam in another state, obtain licensure, and practice for three years in that state. After such time, the applicant will be eligible to apply for Missouri licensure via reciprocity.
