AN ACT

To amend chapter 160, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to high school diplomas for World War II veterans.


Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:

Section A.  Chapter 160, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 160.341, to read as follows:

160.341.  1.  Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the state board of education or a school board may award a diploma to any honorably discharged World War II veteran who was in active service between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946 and who:

(1)  Attended a high school maintained by said school board or attended high school in a district which was subsequently attached to the school district of said school board;

(2)  Left high school prior to graduation in order to serve in the armed forces of the United States;

(3)  Did not receive a high school diploma as a consequence of such service; and

(4)  Was discharged from the armed services under honorable conditions.

2.  Veterans may apply for a diploma by submitting a form provided by the department of education along with proof of service in World War II and status as an honorably discharged veteran to either the state board of education or a school board.
