SCR 59 - This resolution urges Major League Baseball to take substantial steps to address the serious problems with its current economic structure. It also urges the owners of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals, along with the players' representatives of all players on those two teams, to support and work in furtherance of such steps.
The resolution also states that in no circumstances should Major League Baseball owners be permitted to field fewer teams than the number that participated in the 2001 baseball season.
Finally, the resolution declares a moratorium on providing state funding for the construction of a new baseball stadium in St. Louis and a moratorium on providing additional state funding for the existing baseball stadium in Kansas City until such time as Major League Baseball takes steps to address the problems with the current economic structure of professional baseball.
