SB 1073 - Under current law, in order for a teacher to fit
the definition of a "permanent teacher," that teacher must teach
in the same school district for five successive years. Under the
provisions of this act, a teacher would fit the definition of
"permanent teacher" after five total years of service, regardless
of district, except that the first year of employment in a
district would be probationary. Further, the act states that,
should a permanent teacher discontinue teaching for more than
five years, that teacher, upon returning to the profession, would
be considered a probationary teacher for one year, and after such
year would then be granted permanent status.
