Current Bill Summary

HCS/SB 1259 - This act allows nonresidents born after January 1, 1984, to operate a vessel on the lakes of this state with a temporary boater education permit. The permit may be obtained from the State Water Patrol by completing and passing a written examination developed by the Missouri State Water Patrol. The permit shall expire if the nonresident obtains a permanent identification card or 30 days after its issuance, whichever occurs first. A $10 fee will charged for the temporary permit. Upon successful completion of the test and prior to renting a vessel, the business entity responsible for giving the examination shall collect and forward the fees to the Missouri State Water Patrol. Business entities administering the examination shall not incur any liability for its administration. The temporary boater permit provision has a termination date of December 31, 2010.
