SCS/SB 414 - This act modifies provisions in the chapter relating to juvenile courts. Currently an "adult" is defined as an individual younger than 17 years of age or older and a "child" is defined as an individual younger than 17 years of age. This act changes the age to 18 in both definitions. This act establishes juvenile court jurisdiction for all children younger than 18 years of age for all municipal ordinance violations and status offenses, however the child may still be certified as an adult and charged under the criminal code. The provision allowing a parent to petition the circuit court to extend the jurisdiction of the juvenile court until the child's 18th birthday is repealed.
This act is identical to HCS/HB 215 (2007).
