SJR 12 - This proposed constitutional amendment, if approved by the voters, would increase the membership of the State Board of Education from eight to nine and specify that one member be an active classroom teacher, one member be an active school principal, and one member be an active school superintendent. The teacher, principal, and superintendent would be appointed pursuant to statute, and the six lay members would continue to be appointed by the Governor. The terms of members are reduced from eight years to four years. The teacher, principal, and superintendent members would serve one three-year term, while lay members could be reappointed for a second four-year term. This resolution is identical to SJR 17 (2005) and SJR 34 (2006).
