HCS/SB 953 - Currently, a public governmental body is authorized to close certain operational guidelines and policies used to respond to terrorist incidents as well as security systems and structural plans of real property. These exceptions expire on December 31, 2008. This act extends the deadline to December 31, 2012. Currently, a public governmental body may close a record or meeting that relates to a cause of action involving the body. This act defines what constitutes a cause of action to include evidence that a lawsuit has been filed, although not yet served, or communication from a party to the body stating that litigation will be filed unless certain demands are met. The act provides that only members of a public governmental body, their attorney and staff assistants, and any other person necessary to provide information needed by the body for the matter being discussed shall be permitted in a closed meeting.
