Thomas Weise, Hendrik Hund, Soeren Kraft, Martin Riessland, Marko Zillman, and Jens Schmidt, all from from Sonderhousen, Germany traveled to their sister city, Rolla, this summer. The group visited Jefferson City and toured the Capitol with City of Rolla Community Development Director John Peterson, Executive Director of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission Richard Cavender, and their host Kay DuBois.

Fourth graders from Cuba Elementary School stopped by the Senate chamber to take their class photo. The students had a productive day at the capitol, stopping by Sen. Barnitz office, visiting the Senate and House chambers, and touring other historical capitol features.

Sen. Frank Barnitz presents a unanimously passed Senate Resolution to Lee (Omar) Herndon, his intern during the legislative session. The resolution thanks Herndon for his service throughout the 2008 legislative session.

Nancy Montgomery of Cuba was appointed to the Missouri Workforce Investment Board on May 8; she received a gubernatorial hearing on May 7. She is the Human Resources Director at Tacony Manufacturing in St. James and has been working in the human resources field since 1993.

On the 21st Annual State Youth Government Day, students from Steelville R-III Middle School visited the capitol to observe the inner workings of the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives. The day provides youth from around Missouri to learn more about the operation and fundamentals of state government. Teacher Jennifer Whiston joined students in this photo with Sen. Barnitz.

Alice Ruth Bremer was a semi-finalist in the 18th annual Missouri Older Worker Contest. At 78 years old, Bremer works more than 40 hours a week at Bremer Hardware and Lumber in Bourbon. She has worked there since 1952.
Fourth graders from Belle School in the Maries Co. R-II School District visited their state capitol and met with their lawmaker, Sen. Barnitz, where they got the opportunity to ask questions about state government.

The Hermann High School girls’ basketball team received a resolution noting their third place finish at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 3 state championship. The Hermann Lady Bearcats are the District 9 champions with a record of 23-7.

Juniors from Waynesville R-VI High School came to the Capitol and met with Sen. Barnitz. Among the teachers visiting were Gary Young, Tim Belshe, and Amanda Engelkey.

Toni Schwartz of Jonesburg was appointed to the Linn State Technical College Board of Regents on April 25; she received a gubernatorial hearing on April 24. For 34 years, she has been an educator and received her Master of Arts in Education from Maryville University.

The Linn High School boys’ basketball team traveled to the Capitol to receive a resolution in honor of their fourth place ranking in the Show-Me Showdown Class 3 Championship. The Wildcats completed the season with a 27-5 record.

Sen. Barnitz flips pancakes while talking to Andy Thiem, Pulaski County Tourism Bureau Executive Director. The annual pancake breakfast is a traditional part of Capitol Days for Tourism which was held on February 28.

Sen. Barnitz also met with Linn 7th graders Bryce Kliethermes, son of Curt and Michelle Kliethermes, and Chase Barbarick, son of Vaughn and Michele Barbarick. Both boys were shadowing their moms, who are staff at the Capitol.
Linn seventh grader Bethany Herndon, daughter of Omar Lee (right) and Jackie Herndon, came to the Capitol to job shadow her father, who is Sen. Barnitz’s intern this legislative session.
Mahala Mastin, daughter of Alana and Nick Ryan of Cuba and Stanley Cain of Washington, job shadowed Rep. Jason Smith. The Cuba High School senior also took the opportunity to meet with Sen. Barnitz. She is planning to attend Maryville University and major in nursing.
Stephen Strobel, son of Brad Strobel and Paula Sallin both of Chamois, came to Jefferson City to job shadow Sen. Barnitz. The Chamois High School student is planning to attend Missouri State University and major in music education.

A group from Pulaski County visited the Capitol on February 19 and met with Sen. Barnitz for OATS Day. The group included (in no particular order) Estella Collins of Richland, Roberta Stephens of Richland, David Vantassell of Richland, Sylvia Young of Richland, Rose Walters of Crocker, Paul Kinsley of Crocker, Clara Weyand of Crocker, Annette Bartlett of Dixon, Ted Bartlett of Dixon, Bertha Johnson of Dixon, Maggie Bonar of Waynesville, Curley Mamon of Waynesville, Susan Davidson of Saint Robert, Manuel Cardone of Saint Robert, and Margaret Prewitt of Dixon. The two busses that brought the group were driven by Ted Helms and Margaret Monroe.
On February 19, University of Missouri physical therapy students visited the capitol to promote physical therapy issues to the Legislature. In the picture are Dianne McBride, Aspen Heger (daughter of Cheryl and Michael Terry of Dixon), Catey Jones, Megan Goff, and Sen. Barnitz.
