Carl M. Vogel is a lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Missouri. He is a graduate of Helias High School and the University of Missouri at Columbia with a degree in Business Administration. He began full-time employment with Jefferson City Coca-Cola Bottling Company upon graduation in 1978. In 1983 he was named President and General Manager of the family owned business. He is the fourth generation to be associated with the business which incorporated in 1892.
Mr. Vogel is a past board member and chairman of the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce. He has served as a division chairman and ambassador. He is recipient of the Chamber's Chairman Award. He currently is a member of the Chamber's Jefferson City Civic Progress.
He is a past board member of the Helias High School Foundation. Vogel was a member of the Missouri Economic Development Board, which was responsible for issue tax-free bonds and promoting economic development within the state.
Carl Vogel is currently a member of St. Mary's Hospital Board of Directors. He is a member of the Host Lions, Jefferson City Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Rotary West and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is a board member of Central Bank.
He is a past commissioner on the Jefferson City Housing Authority. He has served as a board member of the Jefferson City YMCA. He has served on advisory boards for Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) and Jefferson City Crime stoppers and has worked on campaigns for the United Way, Salvation Army, and Jefferson City YMCA.
The Missouri Jaycees recognized Mr. Vogel for distinguished service in 1990 as one of Ten Outstanding Young Missourians. He was also a charter member of "Leadership Missouri", a statewide program sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce. Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented Senator Vogel the 100% For Jobs Award in 2005.
Carl served in the House of Representatives from 1990-2002. Elected as State Senator in 2002 representing Cole, Callaway, Miller, Morgan and Moniteau Counties. Appointed chairman of Ways and Means Committee; member of Economic Development, Tourism & Local Government; Rules, Joint Rules, Resolution and Ethics; Small Business, Insurance and Industrial Relations; Children's Trust Fund Board, Joint Committee on Gaming and Wagering, Missouri Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation, and Joint Committee on Government Accountability.
Carl Vogel is an active member of the National Soft Drink Association and the Missouri Soft Drink Association.
For more than fifteen years Vogel refereed high school basketball and football. He worked several years of college football in the MIAA Football Conference and refereed the 1988 State High School 2A Championship Game at Busch Stadium.
He is a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral. He and his wife, Kim, are the parents of two children, Jacob and Kristen.
